Poinsettia Christmas Cake

This was my first attempt at making a Poinsettia sugar flower. My original cake design had 3 flowers in varying sizes but even with a 12 inch size cake, having 3 of these large flowers would have never worked so clean and simple it would have to be. This cake went to my pastor for the holiday season.

I made each seperate center using sugar paste and pre-made stamens, dusted them with varying shades of green and red dusting powder I gathered them together in a bunch once dried.  I used powdered red color to get the darker red color, and once assembled i used shimmer dust both on the cake and the flower to get a little bit of shine.

Thank you for stopping by my blog. I hope you enjoy!

OWH Sketches 150 & 151 - ODBD Dec. Challenge-Flowers

Still catching up on my OWH sketches. Fewww...almost there....I'm using this card as my submission for Our Daily Bread December challenge

For this sketch I used various leftover scraps from my scrapbooking. Most of my cards are made from page scraps. Although since the 6 x 6 tutorial I have invested in some pads and have begun to make some cards from those but as any paper crafter I have scraps galore!

Jacob's 15th Birthday Cake and Card

My son really likes ninja and karate themes. When I made this card with images cut from the Cricut. I decided to use that for inspiration for the cake. I used the Wilton color mist for the camouflauge look and then cut images using Sports Mania, and Indie Art cartridges. My son calls himself Jacob Shadow Ninja and I recently found out his friends call him JSN for short so, with thinking down the line of an interesting Scrapbook page journal block, I just had to use the initials on his cake. This is the first time I made a matching card and cake and I can foresee I'll do it again.

OWH MWT- Turquoise and Silver

So for this weeks challenge we had to use the colors Turquoise and silver. My inspiration came form the chevron pattern in the turquoise paper from Echo Park. I wanted to repeat the pattern in the silver and use a new stamp I picked up from my LSS that would complement perfectly. I've been distressing my papers lately. Not something I typically do but for some reason I've been using my Tim Holtz distress tool quite a bit.  I mirrored the flower pattern in the ribbon, the silver background stamp behind the sentiment and with the turquoise paper flower. I hope you enjoy my crazy combinations of pattern, texture and color!

Makin' cupcakes

I tried some different techniques for this layout. I used banner flags for a portion of the title from Mother's Day 2010 cartridge,  the background scallop is from Elegant Edges cartridge. The mixer is cut from a SVG.com file.

The Gangs All Here

These layoutts were taken at my mother's 70th birthday party.
I just love this one. My 12 year old son insisted he take a picture with his oldest sister alone. When I saw the hedgehog images I just knew I wanted to flip one and make the layout really cute.
I used the hedgehog and flower images from Create A Critter. The title font is from Sure Cuts Alot.

Again I used Sure Cuts Alot for the title font. The swirl came from Cricuts Cake Basics cartridge, the tab is From My Kitchen cartridge

Best Friends layouts

These are two layouts I did for pictures of my daughter and her good friend.
For this layout I used a cutout from various Cricut cartridges. The background circle and title strip are cut from Lacy Labels, Chip and Dale are from Disney's Mickey and Friends. The initials are cut from Plantin Schoolbook.

For this layout I used various pattern papers and then cut a watermelon with layers from A Child's Year Cricut cartridge

OWh- MWT- Valentine's card

I didn't make the traditional Valentine's Day card this time. I wanted to make more of a masculine card so that a female soldier could send it to her loved one back home. I embossed iwth the cuttlebug damask folder and used ribbob and a button for this one with lots of layering.

I stamped the image, used copics to color it and used glitter to shimmer up a few spots. I then embossed the pumpkin using devine swirls embossing folder and then used glossy accents to give it dimension.

This is my Step son's birthday cake for tomorrow. I used chocolate buttercream to cover the cake.
Melted red and orange chocalate chips for the lava. Added chocolate rocks along the bottom and then buttercream for the waves and grass. When we light the candles it will appear to explode lava.

OWH - MWT Color Challenge - Black & White with hint of Green or Red

This card came about by trial and error. I recently learned a new technique using Black Gesso and Opalite inks.  I used Cypress Frost on this card.  I painted on the black gesso and then brayered on the Opalite. When I saw the metallic finish I instantly thought dragon flies. Hmmm...how to incorporate the black and white for the challenge?...Embossing powder.  I began with white metallic but that embossed clear so I thought, no going back now so I added the black and that came out pretty good. Now did I have a flat white? Yes! When I completed the paper I then started searching through my stamps for a sentiment and Viola!
So here it is! My version of the black and white card challenge with a hint of green.
Materials:
Claudine Hellmuth Studio black gesso
Opalite Cypress Frost
Inkadnkadoo Gem Stone Insects
Amy Fedder Desingns - Just Right clear stamp set Anchors Away (sentiment)

I hope you enjoy my card and I'd love to hear any comments!

OWH - Sketch 142 card challenge

For this challenge I attempted to mix 4 patterned papers. Not sure how i feel about this one but for better or worse here it is. I used a stamp sentiment from Meagan Elizabeth  - Thankful sayings

OWH- Sketch 141 and October Bonus Sketch

I'm trying to catch up with the OWH card challenges. Although I'm a little behind I buckled down to get the last few done. My scrap stash is growing by leaps and bounds as I finish my scrapbook pages so I've made a concerted effort to use just scraps for the cards. So again, I used scraps from my stash to make this card.
I used a Lili of the Valley stamp image- just love this stamp! My husband is the grilling king so when I saw this stamp I just had to have it. Enjoy!

This is my version of the Bonus sketch for October.
I found the image online as a coloring page and copied it into a word document and sized it to my needs.
I used small scraps from my stash to complete the card.
